Teams for 22-23 Season

As the start of the table tennis season edges closer, we have been working towards getting our players together for the up and coming season and finalising what teams we are entering into what divisions. It was great to see all the leagues back up and running last season after Covid and lockdown and we had fantastic results for our teams and players throughout the season.

For the 2022-2023 season we have the following teams entered

3 x West of Scotland Senior League teams
4 x Scottish National League teams
3 x British Senior League teams

West of Scotland League
The WoS League plans to start WC 19th September where we are hoping to have teams in Division 1, Division 3 and Division 4. Our home matches will continue to be held on a Monday night at St Matthews at the usual kick off time of 7.15pm.

Scottish National League
We have 4 teams in this seasons SNL, two teams in Division 1, one team in Division 3 and one team in Division 6. The first round of SNL will be on 8th October at Bells Sport Centre, Perth with the annual Perth Grand Prix the following day. We are still confirming players for this league, so please let us know if you are available to play if you haven’t done so already.

The A team will be hoping to defend their title after winning a record 8th title last season, the B team will be aiming to build on their 3rd position finish and the C & D team will no doubt be pushing for promotion in their respective divisions.

British League
We will have our British Premier team competing in the home and away format, with our first match at home on Saturday October 22nd against the new team in the league Brighton TTC.

Our B team will compete in the A division at Nottingham this season after they won their B Division last season, so a fresh challenge for the players in a tough league. The C team will be competing in Draycott this season, a different venue so up against different teams from the past couple of seasons.

We will pass on info when we get it from the the league organisers.

Ryan won three medals at two major international competitions. He completed a weeks training in Slovakia then onto Finland to the European Para Youth Games and finally travelling to Poland for the European University Championships.

🥉Euro Para Youth Games – Class 8 singles

Ryan is now heading to English Institute of Sport in Sheffield for a 2 week training camp with British Para Table Tennis before he moves down full time at the end of the month. Moving to Sheffield to train with British Para Squad full time will be a beneficial move where he will train 5-6 hours a day and continue to compete internationally in para events and compete for North Ayrshire in British League & Scottish league.

A NORTH Ayrshire table tennis star has kept his outstanding 2022 season going as he claimed a silver medal in the European University Games in Poland.

Ryan Henry, 22, from Ardrossan, claimed second place at the tournament held in Lodz from the middle to the end of last month.

The athlete was part of Britain’s largest ever delegation of universities, 251, to compete in the games.

He also became one of the first ever British Para athletes to compete in the games, which are a flagship event of the European University Sport Association (EUSA).

The games take place every two years, hosted in different cities across the continent, and the over 6,000 athletes taking part make them the biggest multi-sport academic event in Europe.

Henry, who studies Sports Coaching and Development at the University of the West of Scotland, suffered defeat in his first match of the games, falling 3-1 to Norwegian Christian Pablo Pereira Jacobsen in the class eight match.

Though he avenged the defeat to secure silver as he overcame another Norwegian player, Fredrik Johansen, 3-1.

Henry said: “I’m happy with how I played, and to come home with a silver medal. I’m a bit disappointed that there weren’t as many matches as I’d hoped but it was great to experience a multi-sport Games like this and I’ve enjoyed the experience as a whole.”

It is another medal added to the athletes growing collection from the last couple of months.

Little over six weeks prior to this event, he came home from Mexico with two bronze medals from the Copa Cristina Hoffmann, a Paralympic Table Tennis competition held in Cancun.

Then at the beginning of July, the North Ayrshire Table Tennis Club star came back from the European Para Youth Games in Finland with another bronze medal from the class 8 singles.

Henry went one better on this occasion, and will no doubt have his sights set on a first place prize in the near future, as he continues to battle in this remarkable summer for the athlete.

North Ayrshire (NATTC) stunned league champions Ormesby to take second place in the Senior British League Premier Division.

Ormesby travelled to St Matthew’s Academy, Saltcoats looking to end the season unbeaten having secured the league title just a week earlier. Ryan Jenkins lined up with Ben Savage and Adam Webster, with both Savage and Webster making their first appearance this season for the north-east side.

Needing a comprehensive victory to leapfrog Ormeau who started the day in second spot the NATTC trio got off to the perfect start as Colin Dalgleish beat Savage in three.

Ryan Jenkins beat Chris Main, again in three, to level after two matches and cast doubt over the home side’s hope they could pull off the win needed to climb above Ormeau.

A thrilling back and forth affair followed in the doubles as Dalgleish and Martin Johnson took on Jenkins and Webster. Dalgleish and Johnson led after three, with the Ormesby duo forcing a fifth thanks to a determined 12-10 win in the fourth. The fifth was just as close, Dalgleish and Johnson just doing enough to win 12-10 and set the tie up at 2-1.

Johnson then beat a plucky Webster in four as Dalgleish beat Jenkins in three to move the score line to 4-1 and ensure North Ayrshire remained in with a shot of moving up the table at.

Savage was beaten in three by Johnson before the match of the day took centre stage as Main took on Webster. The north-east player once again proved a tricky opponent, forcing the final match to five. Webster twice fought back from one set down to ensure a final set was needed. That went the way of Main, 15-13, to give North Ayrshire victory and second place in the division.

One final match remains in the SBL Premier Division, with BATTS and travelling to Urban TTC on Saturday 21st May. The fixture from the bottom half of the division is due to get underway at 14:00.

NATTC Players Represent Scotland at British Schools Championships
